The end of the Third War
1 min read
Warned by a prophet, orcs and humans sailed to Kalimdor, where they joined the night elves to stop Archimonde at the World Tree.
A mysterious prophet, Medivh returned from death, urged Thrall and Jaina to sail west to Kalimdor. Thrall's Horde landed on its shores, befriended the tauren of Cairne Bloodhoof and fought its way across the Barrens, and Jaina led refugees from Lordaeron to the same continent. In the forests of Ashenvale, Grom Hellscream and his Warsong clan drank demon blood again and killed the demigod Cenarius.
Thrall and Jaina worked together for the first time to save Grom. In a final duel Grom slew Mannoroth, freeing the orcs from the blood curse at the cost of his own life. Meanwhile Tyrande Whisperwind woke the druids and freed Illidan from the Barrow Deeps, hoping his power would help. Instead he consumed the Skull of Gul'dan, became half demon and was banished by his own brother.
Archimonde marched on Nordrassil to drain its power. Night elves, humans and orcs held the slopes of Mount Hyjal together, buying time while Malfurion prepared a trap. As the demon reached the tree, thousands of wisps swarmed over him and Nordrassil's power tore him apart. The Legion's army was broken, but the World Tree was badly wounded, and the night elves lost the immortality it had granted.
